Marcus Sorour
General Manager — Waggener Edstrom South Africa
As general manager of Waggener Edstrom’s Johannesburg office, Marcus Sorour is responsible for growing the business, as well as delivering a range of traditional and digital public relations services across Waggener Edstrom’s practice areas. He has 13-years experience in the media and communications industry.
Over the past 10 years he has worked with local and multinational brands on business-to-business and consumer campaigns for blue-chip companies including Barclays PLC, Cisco Systems Inc, IBM Corp and Siemens AG.
As well as leading operations in Johannesburg, Sorour will join WE’s Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) board. Prior to joining WE, Sorour was managing consultant of Text 100’s South Africa operations. Before Text 100 he led advertising and public relations accounts at Draft FCB in Johannesburg.
Sorour is passionate about growing the skills base in the South African marketing and public relations industry. He regularly guest lectures at the University of Johannesburg and is a committee member of the Gauteng chapter of the Public Relations Institute of South Africa.
He completed a BCom degree in marketing and communications management at the University of Pretoria. During this time he was a member of the management team of community radio station, TuksFM. He is currently working towards a post-graduate degree in business and marketing.
Marcus spends his free time travelling, mountain biking and reading.
